Canonbury Residence

Malcolm Fryer Architects were appointed by a private client to repair and extend a large early Victorian townhouse to provide flexible family accommodation. The house was in very poor structural condition and required a substantial level of reconstruction, whilst retaining historic features where possible.

The project involved opening up a disused basement and connecting it to the ground floor and garden levels via a pavilion addition. Other interiors were opened up and reconfigured to provide 21st-century living amenity, with a very strong relationship to the garden.

MFA worked very closely with the clients and their contractors on the interiors and detailing to create a very personal home that would suit their needs well into the future.

The street elevation was repaired and redesigned to greatly improve the street appearance of the property.
